A prestige car manufacturer needed to supply obsolete Bakelite (or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride – an early plastic) components to support the vintage fleet of vehicles around the world.

Bakelite has its own unique colour, texture and mechanical properties but is no longer a common process, so to get duplicate components can be difficult.

Bray Plastics were contacted by the manufacturer to help. Using vacuum casting techniques we cast an original component to make a mould. We then blended our resins and colourants to produce exact copies of the original.

This technique can be used for whole variety of duplicating applications and is just one of the skill sets that Bray Plastics can provide as one-offs or production runs.
